This outdoor planter was a mother's day gift. I wanted to do It all by myself and I didn't really have plans, I used some scraps from our garage and I just figured It out as I went. Luckily It turned out pretty good.

We went to home depot and bought this plastic planter box In the garden section. I measured the length and cut the boards to go around.
After everyting was cut and only a few mistakes were made, It was time to sand everything down. I used 80 grit and 220 since It Is an outdoor planter, I didn't need everything to be super smooth.
Now It's time for the pocket holes. One of the best DIY tools we bought years ago was this kreg jig. (pro tip, make sure the drill bit Is set to the correct length for your boards or you will have extra holes like I did)
After all the holes (and extra holes) are drilled It's time to put the 3 box sections together.Â
After I put them together I decided I wanted to add some legs for asethetic and also to help hold everything together. I cut the legs to length and drilled through the mistake pocket holes to secure all the sections. Although wood glue would probably work perfectly as well.
I decided not to stain this piece and Instead I used my favorite finish, Minwax Polycrylic to seal everything up and hopefully protect against the elements. It turned out just like I Imagined and I hope It will last several years to come.
