BOARD AND BATTAN WALL
Our bedroom needed a bold change, and this was It. We love the color, look, and feel this accent wall brings to our room. The color Is Roycroft bottle green from Sherwin Williams. It is exactly what we Imagined when we were planning out the wall.
We started with a rough tape outline of our plan. We had It up for a few days to be sure we liked It. But, we knew it wouldn't be the exact design or angles.
When we went to home depot to find our MDF boards we found these two measuring 3/4" x 1 1/2" and 1/2" x 2 1/2". We were hoping to find something In the middle of the two sizes but they didn't have any. We decided to bring them both home to see what would look best. Ultimately, we agreed to go with the 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 10' because the larger one was wider than our trim.

Our wall measures 18' long and our longest piece ended up needing two boards together. Adam cut a beautiful miter edge and It fit seamlessly on the first try.
Once we had the longest board up we just started measuring where we wanted the next boards and cut about an Inch long to make sure we have enough board. It always easier to take off more than to waste materials. Measuring with the square tool Is Important to make sure your angles are perfect.
A studfinder can be very helpful for nailing up the boards. Some of the boards would not lay completely flat on the wall unless we hit a stud. A few smaller pieces didn't have a stud In the area so we made sure to put a few extra nails In to make It secure.
Total time to cut and nail boards was only 3-4 hours. We were able to do It after work In 2 nights.
I realized after we started that I used non-hardening wood putty to fill all the nail holes. Looking back, spackle might have been better. But, It ended up working out just fine beacuse I didn't overflow the holes with wood filler.
last step before paint Is caulking all the cracks. It didn't take too long and luckily wasn't too messy.
Final step was the painting process. This part took the longest, about 5 hours with both of us. It probably would have been a little easier to roll the paint on the walls before we put up the boards. but either way the trim painting took the longest amount of time. We ended up doing 3 full coats and a touch up coat on everything. But..... all our time paid off! We are so happy with the final results! It changes the look and feel of our room and gives It the pop of color we needed.
